Ceramics

Pottery
Beginning – Intermediate clay
Instructor: Harriette Laskin
Ages 13 - Adult
Limit 8 students
Beginning students will be instructed in basic pottery skills of hand-building, potter’s wheel, decorating and glazing techniques and use those techniques to pursue individual projects. Intermediate students will further strengthen their pottery skills and develop their creative expression. Check with instructor for add’l. Lab hours.

Ceramics I, II & III
Intermediate – Advanced Clay

Adults - Limit 8 students
Students explore pottery forms & concepts using hand method, potter’s wheel, decorating and glazing. This course will provide advanced demonstration and consultations to assist students with developing their individual style. Check with instructor for additional Lab hours.

Photography

Introduction to Basic Photography

Ages 15 - Adult
Participants will explore the basics of taking a picture and will learn methods and techniques to make every picture one of which they can be proud. For this class, digital or 35mm cameras are acceptable.

Black & White Darkroom

Ages 15 - Adult
Using Black & White 35 mm film, students will take photograph, learn how to develop film and print black & white photographs. Instruction on chemistry used for developing film and paper, various papers, making b&w photos from color negatives, darkroom methods, operating enlarger, sepia tone, burn & dodging, increasing contrast of b & w photos and special effects using Arts Center darkroom.

Textiles

Beginning 4-Harness Weaving

13 w/Instructor Approval - Adult
Learn to weave on a REAL loom! Explore the creative aspects of patterns, color and thread interlacements with an experienced educator and weaver. This class is for beginners and those who need a “refresher course” to begin, again. Skills covered in this class include: preparing a warp, dressing a loom, weaving with shuttles on table and floor looms. All materials and equipment will be provided for use at the Center. Students are asked to contact instructor prior to purchasing or bringing a loom to class. $25 materials fee, payable to the instructor at the first session. Two hour sessions can be arranged with instructor during first class.

Beginning Spinning
Instructor: Mary Scott
13 w/Instructor Approval - Adult
This is an introductory class for those who are interested in learning to spin their own yarns. To develop the technique, students will receive a drop spindle and a wide variety of fibers for practice. For those who want to know about spinning on a spinning wheel, the instructor will discuss types, uses, and the proper care of both traditional and modern wheels. Students do not need a wheel to take this class, but will have an opportunity to spin on a spinning wheel. There will also be time for those who own a wheel to bring it to class and have it evaluated. Students who do not own a wheel should wait to purchase one until the variety of wheels is discussed. $30 materials fee is payable to the instructor at first class. .2 hour sessions can be arranged with instructor during first class.

Intermediate Floor Loom Weaving
Instructor: Mary Scott
13 w/Instructor Approval - Adult
Students who have taken a beginning weaving class and are able to measure a warp and dress a loom alone are encouraged to take this intermediate class. The focus will be on understanding profile drafting, color, sett, and an in-depth study of weave structures other than plain weaves and twill. Emphasis will be directed toward Overshot, Summer and Winter, Honeycomb, and any other structures individual students find challenging. Students who prefer to work on their own looms need to contact the instructor. Students who have not taken a class with this instructor might want to contact the instructor.
Some looms are available at the Center. Students who need to reserve a loom should contact the instructor. A $30 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the first class. 2 hour sessions can be arranged with instructor during first class.

Special Workshops

Broomstick Lace Workshop
Instructor – Mary Scott
Ages 13 - Adult
Students will learn the technique and construct a lace scarf with tools and yarns provided by the instructor. Patterns for a scarf and triangular shawl will be provided.

Card Weaving for Beginners
Instructor – Mary Scott
Ages 13 - Adult
Learn the ancient technique of card or tablet weaving to make belts, bands and trims. This type of weaving dates back to the time of the Vikings! Cards and yarns will be provided. This is a great workshop for reinactors.

A Peaceful Pallet
Instructor – Mary Scott
Ages 13 - Adult
This is a natural dye workshop like no other! Not only will you dye yarn from the instructor’s own flock of sheep, but you will learn about plants for your garden that will provide years of color for your own dyeing efforts. Gardening tips and some seeds will be provided.

Inkle Weaving
Instructor – Mary Scott
Ages 13 - Adult
Enjoy learning to weave on a very basic loom that makes straps, belts, ribbons, etc. Materials fee of $50 includes an inkle loom, shuttle, heddles and yarns.

Visual Arts Camp

Around the World in Art

We had such a great response from our first visual arts camp we decided to go “AROUND THE WORLD IN ART” once again. Each day campers will get hands-on fun experience in many visual and some performing arts projects. Daily art projects will be available to take home!
Monday – Friday Aug. 11 – 15 8:30 a.m. –3:00 p.m.
$175 – Includes Lunch & Supplies

**Campers may arrive at 8:00 a.m. & must be
picked-up by 3:30 p.m. Fee includes lunch, snacks and all art supplies!
