CLASS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES AT A GLANCE

· Registration forms are available at the SCCA, 110 West Finney Avenue, Suffolk VA 23434 or online at suffolkcenter.org

· Please be sure to provide SCCA with correct contact information – email address preferred.

· Classes must have a minimum of four students unless otherwise noted

· Forms and/or payment must be received prior to class start date

· No additional member discount in conjunction with special offers

· All students will be notified of class status prior to class and start date

 

REFUND POLICY:

Cancellation of classes by SCCA: If an insufficient number of registrations are received for any individual class, the class may be cancelled. If this occurs, a full refund will be processed for those currently enrolled in the class (funds may also be transferred to another class).

Cancellation by student: Cancellations will be accepted by phone (757.923.0003 ext. 3027), fax 757.923.9699) or mail. Cancellations must be received at least 5 days prior to the first class for a full refund. Cancellations after the 5th day but prior to the first class will receive a 50% refund. After classes begin no refunds will be issued. Other circumstances will be addressed individually.

BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY (Photo Lab, 1st floor) With Larry LeMasters • Ages 15 – Adult Explore the basics of taking a picture and learn methods and techniques to make every picture an image to be proud of. No more missing those once in a lifetime images. Some areas to be covered are: Camera Body, f/stop, lenses, shutter speed, composition, posing, and flash photography. **All photography classes will include a Saturday workshop. DIGITAL CAMERA (Photo Lab, 1st floor) With Larry LeMasters • Ages 15 – Adult Introduction to understanding digital camera systems. How to use ISO, flash, shutter speed, f/stop and filters. How to read, interpret and make use of the information your digital camera provides you; RAW, JPEG, white balance, tone, sharpness, hue, saturation, exposure mode. REGISTER EARLY AND SAVE! FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY (Photo Lab, 1st floor) With Larry LeMasters • Ages 15 – Adult Learn the basics of flash photography, guide number, bounce, diffuse, multiple units, ratio, manual vs. auto and practical applications of flash photography. **All photography classes will include a Saturday workshop. PHOTO COMPOSITION (Photo Lab, 1st floor) With Larry LeMasters • Ages 15 – Adult Study the various ways to use composition of an image to make it more than just average, rule of thirds, triangulation, negative space, vertical vs. horizontal, proper & various ways to pose for modeling, family, individual, children, cropping, masking and filling the frame. **All photography classes will include a Saturday workshop. BEGINNING SPINNING (Art Room B, 3rd floor) With Mary Scott • Ages 13-Adult This is an introductory class for those who are interested in learning to spin their own yarns. No prior experience is necessary to take this class. To develop the technique, students will receive a drop spindle and a wide variety of fibers for practice. The instructor has 30 years’ experience teaching fiber arts and will share many interesting facts about fiber production and processing during the course. THE JOY OF PAINTING with oils (Art Room A, 3rd floor) With Robert LeMasters • Adult Learn traditional studio oil painting with an appreciation of color & nature. WORKSHOP - BROOMSTICK LACE (Art Room B, 3rd floor) With Mary Scott • Ages 13 – Adult Create beautiful lace pieces that could easily become family heirlooms. Students will learn the technique and construct a lace scarf with tools and yarns provided by the instructor. Patterns for a scarf and triangular shawl will be provided, also. No previous weaving experience necessary. WORKSHOP - NEEDLE FELTING (Art Room B, 3rd floor) With Mary Scott • Adult You’ve seen it in the latest catalogs and you can do it, too! Learn the technique of needle felting by making a flower that can be used as an accessory clothing item. Add accents and details to manufactured clothing, make toys, pillows, scarves, handbags, etc. using the same technique! No previous experience is necessary. REGISTER EARLY AND SAVE!
