Suffolk Center GalleriesFields & Forests, Waterways & Wetlands The Art of John Audubon, the Decoy Collection of Thomas J. O'Connor, and selected works by Paul Fisher. April 10 - May 22, 2010 In partnership with the National Audubon Society, our galleries will feature fine prints of American master artist John Audubon. Called “the Founding Father of American Art,” Audubon created a massive body of work that included portraits of every bird then known in the United States. Complementing the extraordinary Audubon images will be the acclaimed Thomas J. O'Connor collection of waterfowl decoys, as well as original works by wildlife artist Paul Fisher. All Audubon prints and Fisher paintings will be offered for sale, with the proceeds jointly benefiting the SCCA and the National Audubon Society. Free Gallery Lecture! Join us on Friday, May 7 at 5pm for a talk on the life and works of John James Audubon. Featured speakers will be Mary Elfner of the National Audubon Society and Andrew Dolby of the University of Mary Washington. Mary Elfner is the Virginia Important Bird Areas (IBA) Coordinator for the National Audubon Society and is responsible for the 20 IBAs in Virginia that represent greater than 3.4 million acres of critical bird habitat in the Commonwealth.
Andrew Dolby is an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Mary Washington where he teaches ornithology, ecology, and animal behavior and conducts research on avian behavioral ecology. He is also the Vice President and President-elect of the Virginia Society of Ornithology.
